Western New York may not jump to the top of your list, but Buffalo is a beloved city for a variety of reasons. If you’re seeking unabashed excitement, strong culture, and passionate people, Buffalo should make it to your relocation shortlist. As the second-largest city in the state, Buffalo is a mecca for culture, entertainment, history, and cuisine without all the urban frills of New York City.
More than the majesty of Niagara Falls, visitors instantly identify Buffalo’s local energy and pride; it’s infectious. Although the Great Depression hit hard, Buffalo rebuilt with a fury, riding on the back of technological and scientific innovation. Tesla, Bak tablets, and a giant medical campus have helped shape the area. In addition to admiring beautiful art exhibits and historic sites, you can explore the outdoors and taste your way through a huge variety of independently owned restaurants, including the birthplace of America’s best bar food: buffalo wings!
If you’re looking for a strong environment in which to put down roots, Buffalo is the place to be, not to mention that Optimum Permanent Placement has a current medical position available. Today, we’ve put together a “top 10” list for you to explore as you visit the area and consider relocation.
Top 5 Dining
Anchor Bar – While you’re in the area, you must see where it all began! Teressa Bellissimo is responsible for the creation of America’s most beloved bar food. In 1964, she whipped up the first batch of wings by chance, and it quickly exploded into a sensation. Ever since that day, Buffalo wings have been a staple. Although many have replicated the Buffalo wing, Anchor Bar’s secret recipe has been safeguarded for decades!
Bacchus Wine Bar and Restaurant – Brian Mietus has worked hard to put together a list of creative dishes and an award-winning wine list. The pairings are to die for and the dining room is beautiful. It’s well worth the visit.
Hutch’s – At Hutch’s, they use sustainable, local ingredients to “redefine city dining.” Heaping plates of American cuisine are served in a tasteful but unassuming exposed-brick setting with a fun patio for the warmer months!
The Left Bank – This restaurant serves a wide variety of delicious Italian fare in large portions. Their Sunday brunch is a fun outing with live jazz entertainment.
Mulberry Italian Ristorante – Mulberry is another must-try. With homemade plates of pasta and large, authentic portions, they pride themselves on being the “most authentic Italian restaurant on this side of the Big Apple.”
Top 5 Attractions
The Buffalo Zoo – As the third oldest zoo in the United States, the Buffalo Zoo is the second largest attraction in western New York, just behind Niagara Falls. Featuring a diverse number of wild and exotic animals, it’s a wonderful place for education and conservation.
Delaware Park – The acres of green space surround a beautiful lake for boating and skating. The greenery is perfect for picnicking, walking, cross country skiing, biking, and observing the beautiful rose gardens.
Frank Lloyd Wright’s Darwin D. Martin House Complex – The Martin House Complex is one of the best residential works of Frank Lloyd Wright. Tours feature a variety of houses, stables, and a beautiful conservatory, all an architectural dream worth seeing.
Hertel Avenue – Hertel Avenue spans Main Street to Delaware Avenue with unique restaurants, stores, salons, and local pubs. One day might not be enough to experience all of the fine cuisine and window shopping you want. You’ll just have to come back again!
Niagara Falls – Niagara Falls is a famous tourist location for travelers and honeymooners. With over six million feet of rocky waterfall shouldered by the United States and Canada, the falls are spectacular and certainly worth a visit in person. On the U.S. side, you can visit plenty of accompanying museums and engaging family exhibits.
